Disc
Golf Courses: Recreational Programs and Competitions
Recreational
Disc Golf
Park departments across the country have been pleasantly surprised at the level
of enthusiasm shown by most disc golf clubs. Clubs often engage in park clean
up, course maintenance, and charity work related to their local events. Weekly
and monthly singles and doubles tournaments bring golfers out to challenge
their fellow players. A random doubles format is exceedingly popular as it
may pair a beginner with a pro, allowing beginners to both learn and win in
a fun positive environment.
Churches and camps
have also installed disc golf courses to great success. Boy Scout troops
have installed courses as community service projects.

Disc golf has two annual
global events. The World’s Biggest Disc Golf Weekend takes place
on nearly 200 courses around the world in Mid-May. The Ice Bowl happens
in late January and early February to promote disc golf solidarity
and raise funds for local food banks.
Disc
Golf Competitions
Handicap
based competitions are becoming popular and provide
beginners, amateurs, and pros a way to compete fairly
against others of similar and diverse skill levels.
Disc
Golf United (DGU) is the official handicapping
service for disc golf. DGU allows disc golfers
of all levels to fairly compete against one another.
Whether
it is a local league or a global event, INNOVA stands
ready to share its expertise and promotional tools
to help your local disc golf program thrive.

Professional
Disc Golf Association
Founded in 1976, the Professional Disc Golf Association is a non-profit
organization dedicated to promotion of the sport of disc golf worldwide.
Its 20,000 plus members live and play in more than twenty countries
on five continents. The PDGA writes the rules for disc golf, provides
members with a full-color magazine called Disc Golf World News,
and is a source of information about the sport.

Every year the PDGA sanctions competitions for professional
and amateur players. Competitors earn points by participating
in these events, which are tabulated by the PDGA, and
used to determine invitations to the annual World Professional
and Amateur Disc Golf Championships. The PDGA is the governing body for the sport. Besides
scheduling the Pro Tour, the PDGA provides rules of
play, equipment specifications, a newsletter, and a
directory of the more than 1500 disc golf courses world
wide.
