Fun for All Ages
Disc golf can be played from school age to old age. The EDGE program (see following page) is introducing this inexpensive lifetime sport to thousands of school kids across the country. At the same time, Seniors, the fastest growing demographic segment, are taking to disc golf in record numbers. Disc golf is an official event in senior games, such as the South Carolina Senior Sports Classic.

"Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission has offered disc golf at their Senior Sports Games for the past 14 years. Disc golf is great because it can be played in so many settings and by diverse skill levels which makes it ideal for the older adult population."
Mary Beth Callais,
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission

Disc golf also provides an opportunity for the specially-abled and disabled to participate in a mainstream activity. Because disc golf is so easy to learn, no one is excluded. Players merely match their pace to their capabilities, and proceed from there.

Disc golf is a low impact, outdoor activity with a good amount of walking. It also provides upper and lower body conditioning, sustained exercise, and it promotes a combination of physical and mental abilities that allow very little risk of physical injury. Concentration skills increase by mastering shots and negotiating obstacles. Players of limited fitness levels can start slowly and gradually increase their level of play as fitness improves. Like traditional golfers, disc golfers quickly find themselves “hooked” – increasing the likelihood of frequent participation.

Disc Golf can Produce Revenue
As disc golf grows, so do the number of “pay-to-play” courses. Disc golf courses can generate revenue in several ways.

“Pay-to-play” courses receive several dollars from each player for a round or entire day’s play. Busy courses with on-site concession facilities can enjoy annual sales of over $50,000 from golf discs and accessories alone. Along with the revenue, a “pay-to-play” format generates many other advantages for the player and the course operator. The regular presence of a course pro to answer questions and explain the sport greatly aids the growth of disc golf at a new facility. Tournaments and leagues draw attention to a new course, and are another source of revenue.
