In 2020 I traveled to Las Vegas to play the Club house Clash at Wild Horse golf club. Lead card, on the final hole of the Innova course, making our final approaches to the elevated pin beyond the lake. I’m around 380 feet from the pin after my first shot, trying to decide what disc to throw while I’m watching Chris Shotwell line up his approach. His disc flips up a bit, fades and parks it and I ask him what he threw, “TL3”, he replies. I grabbed my fairway driver and let it rip, trying to copy Chris’s line but released it a bit higher. Just as the disc comes out of my hand, my friend Chase Chamberlain drunkenly yells, “GET IN THE HOLE.” And my disc proceeded to blow up the basket for an eagle finish infront of over 100 people. It’s always been a dream to run one down to win an event so I’ll never forget this one.
Advice:
Every stroke is worth the same amount. A common mistake I see is careless with the most basic shots that result in an extra stroke. Take your time, access your options, and when it’s time, focus and commit to the shot.
Goals:
Even though this will be the 3rd year I’ve done a full tour, I feel like my goals have remained the same. Be present for every moment and to never give up.
As for long term goals, like most, winning Worlds or USDGC is at the top of the list. Outside of competition Id love to continue to grow the sport and positively impact those around me. Whether it be through clinics, words of encouragement or a simple invitation to play, the smallest things can mean the most to somebody and I want to keep spreading that love.
