Record Women’s Turnout for PDGA Major
A record-setting 340 athletes of all ages are set to compete at this weekend’s 2023 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships. For Juniors, Masters, and the FPO field alike, a win at this PDGA Major could be career-defining.
Team Innova has six women defending their titles from last year. Hailey King (FPO), who just won the MVP Open last weekend, took home her first Major title at the 2022 USWDGC. Jennifer Allen (FP40) won her second Major and had her 150th career win. The 1992 Co-PDGA Rookies of the Year, Pam Reineke (FP60) and Sandy Gast (FP65), added to their long list of Major victories. Rising stars and sisters, Therese Cuevas (FJ15) and Athena Cuevas (FJ10), each won in their divisions, introducing the disc golf community to two names they will be hearing for a long time to come.

All six of these athletes are returning this weekend to defend their titles. Hailey King will have to hold off Kristin Tattar who is going for a season sweep of the Majors should she win. Sandy Gast is taking on an added challenge, playing FP55 instead of FP65. Therese Cuevas has moved from FJ15 into the much larger FA1 division. And Athena Cuevas moved up to FJ12. These athletes will have their work cut out, but given their performances last year, we like their chances! Good luck to our defending champions and the rest of Team Innova at the 2023 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship.
