A Magical Turnover Ace
What’s sweeter than a 350+ foot, Mid-Range ace with your friends there to witness? Capturing the whole moment on video! Carson Smith stepped up to the 371-foot, Hole 3 at the highly-rated Brent Hambrick Memorial DGC in Columbus, OH about to throw the shot of a lifetime. Despite the long distance, he pulled out his perfectly-seasoned McPro Roc3 expecting a smoothly panning turnover with a gentle landing. What he got was an almost magical right-to-left backhand that drifted clean into the bottom of the basket.
I’ve been throwing McPro Roc3’s for a little over a year. They start out straight with a little fade and quickly beat into the perfect turnover disc. Backhand turnovers are one of my favorite shots to throw and to get that ace at my home course, on video, while being surrounded by my friends was an amazing moment.

This ace was no fluke. Carson Smith won the College Disc Golf Matchplay National Championship in April of last year. He also took 2nd place at the 2023 PDGA Amateur World Championships in MA1, an event that is often an indicator of great things to come in the Pro division.
