New Talent to the Tour

The European stretch of the Disc Golf Pro Tour is showcasing talented athletes who are new to live coverage and allowing US Touring Pros and DGN viewers a chance to experience some of the most idyllic disc golf destinations in the world. Last weekend’s Turku Open in Finland was as competitive and fun-to-watch as any US Tour event this year.

In addition to many new names in the Top 10, two Innova players landed on the podium whose names you know well. Finnish superstars Eveliina Salonen and Henna Blomroos finished in 2nd and 3rd place, both putting on exceptional performances off the tee.

Closing In on DGPT World Standings #1

Eveliina Salonen got off to a slow start in Turku, but she came out blazing in round two. She opened with 4 birdies in the first five holes, shooting a hot, -8 for the day that put her into 2nd place. Tough final round conditions kept the entire field from scoring, but Eveliina kept it together better than most. She ultimately took 2nd place, just two strokes off the lead.

Eveliina led the field in Fairway Hits, C1 and C2 Hits in Regulation, and Strokes Gained Tee to Green. She is currently in 2nd place of the Disc Golf Pro Tour World standings for the 2024 season, less than 3 points behind 1st. Even though Eveliina has been a top FPO contender for years, it feels like she has broken through to a new level in 2024.

Valet Parking

Henna Blomroos opened her 2024 Turku Open with the hot round, shooting a -6 back nine that wasn’t even close to matched all weekend. She finished her tournament in 3rd place, her third podium of the season. Henna led the field in Parked percentage. She was 2nd in C1 and C2 Hits in Regulation and 2nd in Strokes Gained Tee to Green.

Team Innova Top Performances

In the FPO, Anneli Tõugjas-Männiste played her 2nd-ever DGPT Elite Event last weekend, with the first being just a few weeks back in Copenhagen. Last weekend, she tied for 6th and in Copenhagen she took 7th place. Two top tens in your first two tour events is promising to say the least. Anneli led the field in C1x Putting and Strokes Gained C1x for the weekend.

In the MPO, Niilo Hongisto also played his 2nd-ever DGPT event last week. He finished in a tie for 5th place, leading the field in Scramble rate. Niilo had a 121-foot throw-in for birdie on hole 4 in the final round.
