Highest Event Rating in PDGA History: Scoggins Wins the Open at Austin

Team Innova is on Fire

Ohn Scoggins just made disc golf history, setting the new record for the highest ever FPO event rating at a PDGA tournament! She won last weekend’s Open at Austin by 11 strokes, the largest margin of victory at an Elite event of the past three seasons. In the MPO, Calvin Heimburg finished in 3rd place after a final round that had him in contention for the win. With two FPO victories through just three events, Team Innova is off to a dream start to this 2024 season.

Record-Breaking Event for Scoggins

Ohn Scoggins averaged 1029-rated through three rounds at last weekend’s Open at Austin, setting the new PDGA record for highest ever FPO tournament rating. She beat the 2nd place finisher, Kristin Tattar, by 11 strokes.

Ohn’s -13 in the second round is tied for the 5th highest single round rating in FPO history. Pairing that with her 1042-rated final round means Ohn shot two of the three highest rated FPO rounds of the past three seasons, in the same tournament.

She led the field for the event in Fairway Hits, Parked percentage, C2 Hits in Regulation, C2 putting, and Strokes Gained Tee to Green. Her putting performance in the final two rounds was a display for the ages.

This was Ohn’s first standard DGPT victory. Last year she won her first Silver Series at the Mid America Open and her first Elite+ at DGLO. She is also a 3x Masters World Champion and two time Tim Selinske US Masters Champion. The only achievement missing from her list of accomplishments is a Major title in the FPO division. This upcoming weekend is the first PDGA Major of the year, the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship. Ohn is registered in the FPO division. We know she has what it takes to take home that title and she has all momentum on her side.

The sport of disc golf wins when a player as likable and easy to root for as Ohn wins. Her positive attitude on the course makes cards featuring Ohn more fun to watch. Her collected demeanor and good sportsmanship make her a role model. Almost all her FPO competitors are happy to see Ohn take home the trophy. Innova is lucky to have Ohn as part of the family.

It All Comes Down to the Final Hole

Calvin Heimburg is back on the podium after a final round push that had Vinny fans on the edge of their seats. He shot a 1072-rated, -10 that kept him in the race for the win until the final hole. Had he birdied 18 instead of taking bogey, he would have forced the playoff with Niklas Anttila. Vinny finished in 3rd place, his first podium so far this season.

Calvin led the field in Parked percentage for the event at 25%. He was also the only player in the field to make all his C1x putts. He was able to achieve those stats while still recovering from an early-season injury. Once fully in the swing of things again, Calvin will be back on top.

Congratulations to Niklas Anttila on becoming the first Finnish MPO champion on the Disc Golf Pro Tour!

Team Innova Top Performances

Kat Mertsch shot back-to-back -7 rounds to start her tournament, averaging 1014-rated. At almost any other event, that would have given her a lead going into the final round. After a tough last day, she held onto a tie for 4th place. Kat had the longest throw-in of the weekend, 240-feet for birdie on hole 7 in the opening round.

Henna Blomroos tied Kat for 4th place. Henna led the field in C1 hits in regulation at an impressive 56%. She was 2nd in Strokes Gained Tee to Green. If she cleans up her C1x putting, Henna can win any event she enters.

Eveliina Salonen finished in a tie for 8th place. She went 5 down through 5 to open her tournament, taking eagle on the 2nd hole she played.

Juliana Korver also got off to a smoking start, with four straight park jobs for birdie on the first four holes of the event. She finished in 15th place.

In the MPO, Bradley Williams took 16th and shot a -10 in the 2nd round. Joel Freeman finished in 21st.

Going for Gold at the USWDGC

Next weekend is the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship. Team Innova already has two FPO wins in the first three events of the season. Ohn Scoggins just set a PDGA record that proves she can beat anyone when she plays her best. All signs point to a strong Innova showing at the first PDGA Major of the year.
