Ready for his Rookie Season
Remember the name Calvin Lonnquist – you’re likely to hear a lot more of it in the coming months and years. Cal is 18, fired up about disc golf, and putting in the hard work to be competitive against the best. Even though he has been playing for less than four years, Cal has ambitious goals. He is planning a full US tour this year and is determined to make the 2024 Pro Tour Championship.
In his relatively short time playing the sport, Calvin Lonnquist has shown a trajectory of improvement that is almost unheard of. His rating has steadily climbed from under 930 in March of 2021 to an impressive 1017 as of last October. In September of 2023, Cal won his first A-tier, the Lake Superior Open, held in Superior, Wisconsin. He played the same event the year prior, competing against a similar field, and finished in 26th. You can attribute that progress to time spent grinding on the course. Cal plays 3-4 rounds a day and takes 300-500 putts. Practice pays.
2024 is the young player from Minnesota’s first year on Team Innova. His love for the game and motivation to keep getting better is the model of what we look for in an up-and-coming pro.
I think everyone, at some point, dreams of being on Team Innova because it’s just the best company in disc golf. They have the most influence. I think they make the best discs. So it’s really crazy to me to be wearing team wings on my shirts and my sweatshirts right now!
