Day Three Update

Big Something Rocks the Village

Eveliina Salonen sits tied for 1st after Moving Day of the Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship. At the 2023 United States Disc Golf Championship, Bradley Williams moved two spots up the leaderboard into 2nd. This is the best position he has ever had going into Championship Sunday.

The crowds at Winthrop were the biggest we’ve ever seen and will only get bigger for the final round. The North Carolina jam band, Big Something, played to a packed Championship Village during the Fresh and Now concert series, rounding out the all-day party in Rock Hill.

Shaping Up for a Dramatic Finish

Eveliina Salonen holds her lead at the Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship, but Kristin Tattar has picked up a share as well. Both players sit at -19, two strokes ahead of 3rd place.

Eveliina is throwing the disc better than every other player in the field, thoroughly reflected in the Udisc statistics. She leads the TPWDGC in Strokes Gained Tee to Green, Fairway Hits, Parked percentage, C1 Hits in Regulation, C2 Hits in Regulation, Scramble rate, and she has the lowest OB rate. Eveliina has amazingly Parked over a quarter of the holes so far in this tournament.

Finnish Friends on Lead Card Again

Henna Blomroos will return to the lead card with her best friend Eveliina for the final round. She is currently at -15, four strokes off the lead. Henna is 2nd in Strokes Gained Tee to Green, 2nd in C2 Hits in Regulation, 3rd in C1 Hits in Regulation, and 3rd in Parked percentage.

In the first round, Henna shot -10, proving she can get extremely hot on this course. With OB, water, and mandos on many of the holes, no lead is safe at Winthrop. If Henna has another round like her first, she is still well in the hunt for this year’s Throw Pink title

Hailey Heating Up

Hailey King shot a -5 in the third round which moved her six spots up the leaderboard into the top 10. She is 5th in the field in C1 Hits in Regulation.

Mertsch Holds Steady

Kat Mertsch remains in the top 10, shooting -1 in the third round. There are six strokes between Kat and the 5th place athlete, so she will need to get very hot if she wants to make significant moves up the leaderboard.

B Willy With Career-Defining Opportunity

Bradley Williams will go into the final round in 2nd place, just three strokes off the lead. He is leading the field in C2 Hits in Regulation and is 3rd in Strokes Gained C2. That combo means Bradley is making highlight putt after highlight putt, a style of golf the fans love.

Bradley has never had a top 10 finish at a USDGC before which earns you a free spot to play in the next year’s Championship. His main goal of a top 10 feels secure, but B Willy has a chance to do much more. If the young Kyle Klien falters on the treacherous Winthrop Gold, the veteran Bradley Williams will be there to capitalize.

Joel Returns to Lead Card

Joel Freeman struggled in the third round of the USDGC, but he will return to the lead card for the final day. He leads the field in C2 Hits in Regulation along with Bradley and is 3rd in Scramble percentage. Joel has eagled the 549-foot Hole 10 in all three rounds so far.

Vinny Up 24 Spots

Calvin Heimburg is up 24 spots after day three, now sitting in a tie for 9th place. He is 2nd in the field in C1 Hits in Regulation. Calvin has gone 10 straight events on Tour without missing a top 5, a streak he is hoping to continue. A strong finish at this year’s USDGC will help his case for Player of the Year.
