A Chance to Test Different Skills
Last weekend’s Zoo Town Open, presented by Ink Realty Group and Driven by Innova, was the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s first taste of mountain golf at an Elite or Silver Event. Team Innova’s Holly Finley and Juliana Korver both finished in the top ten, showcasing their abilities at altitude. Holly shot one of her best rounds of the season on the final day to move four spots up the leaderboard into 8th place. Juliana Korver backed up her podium finish at the Portland Open, landing in a tie for 9th.
About Blue Mountain Disc Golf Course
Blue Mountain Disc Golf Course in Missoula, Montana is the highest altitude course on tour. At elevation, discs are more overstable and have less glide; that means players have to rethink their bags and adjust their release angles to compensate. Successfully making those changes is a skill all to itself. Additionally, angle control on massive downhill shots, power on uphill shots, and stamina to hike from hole to hole are key to scoring well at Blue Mountain.
The course has a good mix of wooded and open holes with significant elevation change throughout. Scenic views of the Rattlesnake, Bitterroot, and Sapphire Mountains make this area of Montana among the most beautiful in the country. The Zoo Town Open was a great addition to the Pro Tour for 2023. It offers unique challenges that contribute to a rounded test of skills over the course of the season at one of disc golf’s most idyllic venues.
Finley and Korver Make Top 10
Holly Finley had her best finish at a Pro Tour event so far in 2023, taking 8th place at the Zoo Town Open. She got off to a blistering start in the final round with a -7 on the front nine. She finished her round at 8 under par, with ten birdies on the day, moving her four places up the leaderboard. Holly was 5th in the field in Parked percentage and C1 Hits in Regulation.
As if we needed another reason to call Juliana Korver the GOAT, she showed off her abilities the mountains last weekend. Coming off her first podium finish of the season at the DGPT Elite+ Event, the Portland Open, Juliana put together another solid tournament in Montana to earn a top ten finish. She was 4th in the field in Fairway Hits and Parked percentage, and 3rd in Scramble rate. Juliana moved one spot up the DGPT point standings, bringing her closer to her goal of making the 2023 Tour Championship.
Upcoming DGPT Events
The Pro Tour is heading into a densely packed stretch of important tournaments. The next three weekends will each hold a DGPT Elite Event: The DDO from June 16-18, the Des Moines Challenge from June 23-25, and the Preserve Championship from June 30-July 2. Pro Tour points, big payouts, and the glory that comes with a DGPT victory are all on the line. Watch Team Innova at every Elite and Silver Event live on the Disc Golf Network.
