Congratulations to one of Innova’s newest team members, Jared Roan from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Jared is off to a fast start in 2013 and recently picked up a nice win in New Mexico at the Pendaries Spring Classic against a tough field. Since many of you may not yet be familiar with Jared, we decided to bridge the gap.
When and where did you discover disc golf?
J. Roan: In 2008 my highschool friends brought me to this little 9 hole disc golf course, Bay Court in Clarkston, Michigan. I instantly fell in love with the game.
Do you remember the very first disc you ever threw?
J. Roan: Star Valkyrie
Did it go left?
J. Roan: It actually went right! I threw a righty forehand for the first year I played disc golf.
Memorial Championship 2013
You had a brief, yet very successful run as an amateur that included a National Collegiate Championship in the Men’s Advanced Division. Did you have a disc golf mentor who helped you to progress so quickly?
J. Roan: Many people have helped make me the player I am today, but if I had to say one person it would be my friend Zak Fortuna. We were probably the two most talented amateurs in the state at the time and we fueled off each other every round. Both of us were constantly learning new shots and helping each other grow. Watch out for Zak in the future!
