Sarah Cunningham “Rains” Supreme

It was a wet battle at the Hall of Fame Classic, a National Tour event held at the IDGC in Georgia. The Women’s field was robust, with five women’s world champions ready to battle the long wooded courses. After the first round, Sarah Cunningham and Des Reading were only a few strokes back from the leader.

Sarah’s steady, often dominating performance in the rain during Rounds 2 and 3 on Saturday, separated her from the rest of the field. Sarah’s third round set her apart with a stretch of 5 birdies that gave her a generous buffer for the final round. Sarah held her lead on Sunday, winning by 15 strokes. Des Reading played well all weekend and finished a strong second. Courtney McCoy finished in 4th.

In the Open division, Ken Climo held a share of the lead after the first round, but fell back in the rain during the third round. Matt Dollar held a steady pace all weekend and earned a 5th place finish mostly on his solid performance on the daunting W.R. Jackson course. Ken Climo finished in 7th, followed by Josh Childs in 8th.

In Grandmasters, Hall-of-Famer Stan McDaniel returned to the tee… no, not to build more courses, but to play. Four solid rounds gave him an eight stroke lead over “The Godfather”, Alan Beaver, who beat Johnny Sias in a close battle. The top three in Grandmasters were all Hall-of-Famers. Seems fitting.

In Masters, Jay Reading held the lead for a while, but finished a close second place. Hopefully everyone is getting dry now…
